To the Beat of My Drum… February 11, 2010

It’s nearing the end of summer and you’re either desperately loitering in every patch of sunlight you can find, or waiting impatiently for the cooler months in the shady cover of your parasol.

I’m not a particularly summery person myself; however there’s something about the styling around this season that gets my creative waves breaking.  I’m trying to channel my “African Heart” at the moment: all things tribal (no bad tattoos please), safari, clashing prints and big beads!  I’ve even been digging out some genuine African music for the studio to match my vibes (not to mention Radioclit’s side project “The Very Best”, which you might have seen at the Laneway festival not long ago!).

Kalahari fever has got me going back over some of my favourite tribal collections from the last batch of International summer shows.  My absolute favourites were Richard Nicoll and Issey Miyaki’s offerings, invoking safari adventure in a surprisingly delicate way.  Even the uber-conservative Paul Smith threw some Botswanan chic into the mix!
